Professional Profile

He qualified from The Royal London Hospital Medical College, University of London in 1988. He trained in neurosurgery in Cambridge, London and Manchester. He was appointed consultant neurosurgeon in Manchester in 1998

Research Interests

He has a significant research interest which led to him being appointed Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Manchester in 2012. He has published over 60 papers in peer review journals on subjects including subarachnoid haemorrhage, intracerebral haemorrhage, head injury and skull base pathology. He has supervised more than 10 neurosurgical registrars over 15 years in their postgraduate degrees, either PhD, MD, MSc with further registrars actively engaged in research work towards these degrees. The research team with whom he works has won multiple grants totalling over £3 million, including 3 Medical Research Council awards.
