Personal Profile

Dr Ben Dawson completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Lancaster (2015) and further post-graduate in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow (2017) and the University of Bristol (2022). He is a registered Clinical Neuropsychologist having obtained the British Psychological Society Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).

Since 2016 Ben has worked at Salford Royal Hospital in the Major Trauma service within the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology. Ben now acts as the clinical lead for the Major Trauma Psychology and Traumatic Brain Injury service at the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences.

Ben is involved with a number of clinical and research projects aimed at furthering psychological assessment and interventions for major trauma, traumatic brain injury, and care in the aftermath of major incidents. Ben maintains regular service evaluation and audit projects aimed at furthering clinical practice and new ways of working in these areas.

Ben provides guest lectures for clinical psychology doctoral training programmes and undergraduate psychology programmes.

Research Interests

Ben’s main research interests are centred on furthering the understanding of psychological and neuropsychological responses to major trauma, traumatic brain injury, and major incidents. Ben maintains specific interests in post-traumatic stress disorder and the early assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive function following traumatic brain injury. Ben is also interested in the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging and other imaging types in relation to traumatic brain injury assessment and intervention.
